Michele Mancino, Child Pornography Production, South Carolina 2022

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Michele Mancino, a/k/a “Mike Mancino,” 41, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, will spend the next three decades in federal prison after pleading guilty to the production of child pornography. The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Richard Gergel, reflects the gravity of Mancino’s depraved acts and the relentless pursuit of justice by federal authorities.

Court evidence revealed a chilling pattern of abuse that began in late 2022. Mancino wasn’t acting in isolation. He was actively engaging with other pedophiles on the Scruff and Telegram apps, detailing his grooming and sexual abuse of a four-year-old victim. The digital trail didn’t stop there. A search of Mancino’s devices uncovered a trove of images and videos depicting the abuse of the young child, corroborating the horrific conversations found on the messaging apps.

But the depravity didn’t end with one victim. Investigators also found that Mancino possessed and traded images and videos of child sexual abuse materials featuring other prepubescent minors, some as young as infants. During questioning, Mancino confessed to not only creating the abusive content by documenting his crimes against the four-year-old but also to actively participating in the distribution of these materials to a network of fellow predators.

“This sentencing reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting the most vulnerable among us,” stated U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Adair F. Boroughs. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to relentlessly pursue those who exploit the innocence of children.” Cardell T. Morant, special agent in charge of HSI Charlotte, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Protecting children from exploitation is one of HSI’s top investigative priorities…HSI along with its partners will use every resource available to find, arrest and hold accountable predators, like Mancino.”

Judge Gergel imposed the maximum sentence allowed under the statute – 360 months imprisonment, followed by a lifetime of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system, meaning Mancino will serve the full 30 years. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims of his crimes and an assessment into the Trafficking Victims’ Fund. This case was brought forth as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative dedicated to combating the exploitation and abuse of children.

The investigation was a collaborative effort led by Homeland Security Investigations, the Charleston Police Department, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Orville prosecuted the case. Authorities emphasize that while the term “child pornography” is still used in legal statutes, “child sexual abuse materials” is now recognized as the more accurate terminology. Anyone with information regarding child exploitation is urged to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or their local law enforcement agency.
