Defendant Sentenced to Life in Prison for Child Abuse

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a shocking turn of events, 25-year-old Grant Wes Morris of Vian, Oklahoma has pleaded guilty to one count of Child Abuse in Indian Country. The crime, punishable by a term of up to life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.00, has left the community reeling.

According to the Indictment, Morris willfully and maliciously harmed and threatened the health, safety, and welfare of a child under the age of 18 on July 1, 2025, causing swelling and bruising. The crime occurred in Sequoyah County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sequoyah Sheriff’s Office. The Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Morris will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Morgan Muzljakovich represented the United States in the case. The outcome of the trial is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
