Convicted killer Christopher Green, 39, was today sentenced to a staggering 35½ years in federal prison after being found guilty of RICO conspiracy and VICAR kidnapping. The District of Columbia native’s sentence also includes charges for first-degree murder while armed, attempted robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and firearms offenses.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Green was a core member of a criminal organization responsible for a series of armed robberies in the District of Columbia and Prince George’s County, Maryland. The sentence follows a 12-day re-trial earlier this year, where a federal jury found him guilty of RICO conspiracy and VICAR kidnapping.
In April 2017, Green shot swim coach Zaan Scott, 25, during an attempted robbery, leading to Mr. Scott’s death months later from complications related to the shooting. Green was also found guilty of firing gunshots at another victim in February 2017.
The VICAR kidnapping conviction stemmed from an incident where Green and a co-conspirator robbed a young man at gunpoint and stole his ATM card. They then forced the victim to strip and took his belongings, including sneakers, before ordering him to drive to a nearby apartment complex.
Joining in the sentencing announcement were Assistant Director Steven J. Jensen of the FBI Washington Field Office and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Washington Field Office, MPD, and Prince George’s County Police Department, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nihar R. Mohanty and Michael Liebman.
This case marks a significant victory for law enforcement in combating organized crime and violent street crimes in the region.
