PORTLAND, Maine: In a stunning admission of guilt, John Labbe, 44, from Greene, Maine, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court today to federal drug and firearm charges. The charges stem from an incident in January 2025 when Labbe was apprehended by Lewiston police for unlawful operation of a vehicle.
Officers discovered a handgun with a laser sight and quantities of fentanyl and cocaine base on Labbe. Further investigation into his cell phone revealed what appeared to be distribution arrangements for controlled substances.
Labbe is staring down a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, up to life in prison, and a maximum fine of $5 million. The sentence will be determined after the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with support from the Lewiston Police Department, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a multi-level law enforcement initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program focuses on fostering community trust, supporting prevention efforts, strategic enforcement, and measuring results.
