CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Austin Joseph Griffith, a 22-year-old from Hernshaw, Kanawha County, was today sentenced to five years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for his role in distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to court documents and statements made during the sentencing hearing, Griffith confessed to selling approximately 560 grams of methamphetamine for $4,000 to an informant at his residence in Hernshaw on December 13, 2021. He also admitted to selling quantities of fentanyl to a confidential informant at the same location on two separate occasions in March 2022.
Following these transactions, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Griffith’s residence on March 25, 2022, where they recovered additional methamphetamine and fentanyl. United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentence, commending the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative efforts.
United States District Judge Irene C. Berger imposed the sentence, with Assistant United States Attorney Jeremy B. Wolfe handling the prosecution of the case.
