Ridgewood, New York resident Grzegorz Baczewski, age 31, has been sentenced to time served (20 days in jail) for illegally re-entering the United States.
According to court documents, Baczewski admitted to returning to the United States after he was removed to Poland on September 18, 2013.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Thomas P. Brophy, Acting Field Officer Director of the Buffalo Field Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
Following his sentencing, Baczewski was remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, which will place Baczewski into removal proceedings.
This case was investigated by ICE-ERO and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward P. Grogan.
Baczewski’s sentencing marks the latest in a string of cases targeting individuals who have attempted to re-enter the United States after being previously removed.
As the investigation into Baczewski’s re-entry continues, the community is left to wonder what led to his decision to return to the United States and face the consequences of his actions.
