Myrtle Beach, SC – In a stunning turn of events, Edgar Rolando Castro Soc, a 37-year-old native and citizen of Guatemala, entered a guilty plea in federal court for Illegal Re-Entry into the United States. The crime is a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
The U.S. Attorney Beth Drake announced that Castro Soc, who resides in Myrtle Beach, SC, admitted to the charges during a hearing held in Florence. Judge Bryan Harwell will sentence him following a review of his presentence report.
On September 1, 2016, ICE-ERO Officers discovered Castro Soc while he was being held at the Myrtle Beach City jail on state charges. Upon further investigation, they confirmed that he was an alien who had been unlawfully in the United States.
Records checks showed that Castro Soc had previously been deported from the U.S. five times. Despite never having received permission to enter or remain in the country, he brazenly returned.
The potential sentence for this illegal act is severe: up to two years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, and a special assessment of $100. Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence office handled the prosecution.
This case has been investigated by agents of ICE-ERO Homeland Security Investigations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws.
