Johan Perez-Ventura, a 27-year-old Guatemalan national, pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States after causing a head-on collision in Butler County, Ohio, that injured a Cincinnati Children’s Hospital nurse. The crash occurred in November 2025, when Perez-Ventura, who was deported in February 2019, was driving left of center and collided with another vehicle. He was arrested on local charges and later convicted of aggravated vehicular assault in May 2026, receiving a 54-month prison sentence.
Perez-Ventura’s history of convictions includes assault and two operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs charges in October 2024 and September 2023. His guilty plea for illegally reentering the US is a federal crime punishable by up to two years in prison.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime. The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Detroit Field Office announced the guilty plea, which was entered before U.S. District Judge Jeffery P. Hopkins.
Assistant United States Attorney Danielle E. Margeaux is representing the United States in this case. Perez-Ventura’s sentencing has not been scheduled, but he faces up to two years in prison for his federal crime.
