Two Cincinnati men, Michael Goss, 18, and Felix Burnette, 22, were caught with machineguns modified with Glock switches, which convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic ones. The arrests happened on March 12 near the Valley Shopping Center on Reading Road, after a traffic stop for illegal window tint. The men now face federal charges that could land them up to 10 years in prison.
The indictments are part of a broader effort to combat violent crime in Cincinnati, with the US Attorney’s Office working closely with local law enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). US Attorney Dominick S. Gerace II emphasized that possessing a firearm with a Glock switch will lead to federal prosecution, regardless of age or criminal history.
The cases against Goss and Burnette were unsealed in federal court, where they appeared to face the charges. Special Assistant United States Attorney Allison B. Oswall is handling the prosecutions, as part of a state and federal collaboration to reduce violent crime.
The use of Glock switches to convert semi-automatic guns into machineguns is a growing concern for law enforcement, as it can significantly increase the lethality of these firearms. The federal charges against Goss and Burnette reflect the seriousness with which authorities are treating this issue.
