Guatemalan national Felino Fernando Perez-Jimenez, 25, was meted out a seven-month federal prison sentence for illegal reentry into the United States, following his removal in 2023. The sentence was handed down on August 6, 2025, after Perez-Jimenez was apprehended by law enforcement officials for simple assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness, and failure to comply with an officer.
The offense occurred in Jackson, MS, where Perez-Jimenez was found to be unlawfully present on January 11, 2025. Upon his arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) identified him as a Guatemalan citizen without legal immigration documents. The defendant had previously been removed from the United States in 2023.
Perez-Jimenez was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 4, 2025, and pleaded guilty to the charges on May 2, 2025. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Wade Allen and Kimberly T. Purdie.
Patrick A. Lemon, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi; Eric P. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans; and Brian Acuna, Acting Field Office Director of ICE/ERO in New Orleans, announced the sentence. The investigation was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime.
Operation Take Back America coordinates efforts between the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). Perez-Jimenez’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the federal government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and safeguarding American communities.
