PROVIDENCE — A Guatemalan national who thought he could outrun the law has been sentenced to time served for re-entering the country illegally after a string of convictions.
Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, 46, was convicted in federal court in Connecticut in November 2014 on charges of conspiracy to import 5,000 grams or more of cocaine and conspiracy to import 1,000 grams or more of heroin. He was deported on July 1, 2015.
But Alvarado Aguilar wasn’t content to stay out of the country. He re-entered the country illegally and was arrested in Rhode Island on April 10, 2025, for driving on a suspended license and obstruction. He was charged in U.S. District Court in Providence on May 9, 2025, with illegal re-entry.
Alvarado Aguilar pleaded guilty to the charge on May 29, 2025, and on February 22, 2024, was sentenced to time served by U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy.
But Alvarado Aguilar’s troubles aren’t over yet. An immigration detainer has been filed in this matter, and he will again face deportation. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Peter I. Roklan and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Immigration and Custom Enforcement. This case is a stark reminder that our country will not tolerate those who flout our laws and put our communities at risk.

In this case, that means ensuring that Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar is held accountable for his actions and that he is deported back to his home country.
