Local Man Faces Up to 40 Years in Prison for Heroin Distribution
A 52-year-old Johnstown man has pleaded guilty to distributing heroin in the Laurel Highlands region. Willie Gene Gulley Jr., of Kunkle Street, Johnstown, PA, admitted to selling the deadly opioid on two occasions in 2018.
According to court documents, Gulley distributed less than 100 grams of heroin on March 1, 2018, and again on March 20, 2018. His guilty plea comes after a joint investigation by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cambria County Drug Task Force.
Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is prosecuting the case, which was brought to light through the tireless efforts of local law enforcement. The investigation and prosecution of Gulley serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against the opioid epidemic gripping our nation.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Gulley faces up to 40 years in prison, a fine of $2,000,000, or both. His sentencing is scheduled for January 4, 2022.
The sentencing of Gulley will serve as a warning to those involved in the heroin trade. Heroin distribution has devastating effects on individuals and families, and the courts will not hesitate to impose severe penalties on those convicted of such crimes.
Gulley’s guilty plea is a significant victory for law enforcement and a step forward in the fight against heroin distribution. The Grimy Times will continue to bring you updates on this and other cases involving heroin distribution in our region.
