Marc Christopher Viloria and Manuel Edwin Martinez, two men from Nevada, have been sentenced to prison for unlawful possession of firearms. Viloria was involved in a high-speed chase with police on November 20, 2024, after a shooting in which he was likely involved, while Martinez was found with a firearm at a gas station on January 12, 2022. Both men had prior convictions that prohibited them from possessing firearms, with Viloria having been convicted of sale of a hallucinogen and criminal possession of a firearm in Kansas, and Martinez having been convicted of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in Colorado.
Viloria pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and was sentenced to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Martinez also pleaded guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to 37 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
The cases were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The government recommended prison sentences of 30 and 37 months for Viloria and Martinez, respectively.
The sentencing of Viloria and Martinez serves as a reminder of the consequences of unlawful firearm possession, particularly for those with prior convictions. The ATF and local law enforcement agencies continue to work together to prevent and prosecute such crimes in Nevada and across the country.
