A Sioux Falls woman tried to make a getaway with a loaded pistol when cops showed up at her doorstep last year. Amber Gentapanan, 28, was busted with a semi-automatic handgun in her bag on March 25, 2025. She was a convicted felon, already serving a rap for possessing a controlled substance in 2022.
Gentapanan was indicted in August 2025 for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. She copped a plea deal in January 2026 and cut a deal for two years in the joint.
The case is part of the feds’ Operation Take Back America initiative, a nationwide crackdown on cartels, TCOs, and violent crime.
Gentapanan was handed down a two-year sentence by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange on April 6, 2026. She was also slapped with three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment.
