Child predator Kevin Hedgpeth, a 48-year-old former mayor pro tem of Hanahan, South Carolina, has been slammed with federal charges for producing and possessing child sex abuse material. Hedgpeth, who was arrested last Thursday, remains in custody pending trial.

According to an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Hedgpeth used social media to facilitate the sale of child sex abuse material and paid out over $47,000 to 47 accounts linked to minors.

Further investigation revealed that Hedgpeth stored child sex abuse videos and images in an iCloud account registered to his personal email address, phone, and home address. He used this account to communicate with children, pressure them to produce explicit content, and send it to him in exchange for money.

One minor, just 12 years old when the communication began, was paid for child sex abuse videos and pressured to produce content with their 15-year-old brother.

Hedgpeth’s crimes have left a community reeling in horror. His court-appointed waiver of a detention hearing means he’ll remain behind bars until his trial.
