Assault with a Knife: 30 Months in Prison for Shiprock Man
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – In a shocking display of violence, 21-year-old Harley Etcitty, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for stabbing two men after a day of heavy drinking.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 9, 2022, when Etcitty, now 21, got into a heated altercation with two men. Without hesitation, he pulled out a knife and stabbed one man in the back and chest, and another man who was sleeping on a couch, in the head.
Etcitty pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. This reckless behavior has now landed him in federal prison, with no chance of parole.
Upon his release from prison, Etcitty will be subject to two years of supervised release. While in prison, he will have the opportunity to undergo the Bureau of Prisons’ Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program, an intensive cognitive-behavioral therapy program specifically designed to combat substance abuse.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.
The Farmington Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones is prosecuting the case.
