Jeremy Rabenberg, Methamphetamine Distribution Conspiracy, Iowa 2014

Jeremy Rabenberg, 40, of Hartley, Iowa, faced the federal justice system’s wrath after being sentenced to four years behind bars for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The sentence, handed down on October 2, 2014, followed Rabenberg’s June 10 guilty plea to conspiring to distribute at least 1500 grams of mixed meth containing 500 grams or more of pure meth from early 2013 until February 2014.

The grim details of Rabenberg’s descent into the criminal underworld came to light during a January 29, 2014, incident. Spencer Police Officers found Rabenberg asleep in his vehicle, engine running, outside a local bar. The scene was ripe with contraband: $5,000 in cash and two grams of meth were seized from the car’s center console, while a .380 caliber Berretta handgun loaded with seven rounds was found between the front passenger seat and console.

It was just the beginning. A subsequent search warrant at Rabenberg’s residence yielded 354.58 grams of pure meth, $7,200 in cash, and a cache of firearms from his bedroom. United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett sentenced Rabenberg to 48 months’ imprisonment and imposed a special assessment of $100. The defendant is also mandated to serve a five-year term of supervised release following his prison term, with no parole in the federal system.

Rabenberg’s case was a collaborative effort between the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Division of Intelligence, Orange City Police Department, and the Tri-State Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case.

Court file information for this methamphetamine conspiracy is available online at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, under case number 14-4025. Rabenberg remains in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service until he can be transported to a federal prison.
