U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, in collaboration with the New Orleans Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Protective Services Division, and the Anti-Defamation League for the Southern Region of Louisiana, will be co-hosting a free “House of Worship” Security Symposium on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
The symposium aims to provide faith-based leaders with essential information on hate crime trends, investigations, workplace violence, and active shooter situations. Additionally, a victim witness informational session will be held to inform leaders on how to support victims of hate crimes.
The symposium is a response to the growing number of hate crimes targeting faith-based institutions. According to recent statistics, hate crimes have increased by 10% in the past year alone.
The event will be held at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, located at 650 Poydras Street, Suite 1600, Winters Conference Room. Registration is free and can be completed online at https://usaolaetraining.org/HouseOfFaith. Early registration is advised, as attendance will be limited.
Faith-based leaders are urged to attend the symposium to learn more about hate crime trends and how to prevent such crimes in their communities. The event is an opportunity for leaders to come together and share their experiences, as well as learn from experts in the field.
