Fresno Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Drug and Firearm Charges

A hard-hitting sentence has been handed down in Fresno, California, as Hector Kioni Gongora, 44, of Fresno, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of a felony crime.

According to court documents, on January 11, 2021, Gongora was arrested on a felony warrant and found in possession of a firearm and methamphetamine. A search of his residence recovered over 300 additional rounds of ammunition. He was charged with one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and pleaded guilty on June 29, 2021.

This case was the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fresno Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio J. Pataca prosecuted the case.

This case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

The defendant, Hector Kioni Gongora, is hereby identified as possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fresno Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio J. Pataca.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd.
