BOSTON, MA – A Springfield man is going down for his role in the city’s cocaine trade.
Hector Quinones, 45, of Springfield, was sentenced yesterday to 42 months in prison for possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute while on supervised release for a prior heroin distribution conviction.
Quinones was on supervised release for a 2018 conviction for conspiracy to distribute heroin in the District of Connecticut. He was also convicted for possession with intent to distribute in Rhode Island as well as a 2016 conviction for delivering heroin in Rhode Island.
At the time of his indictment in April 2022, Quinones was on supervised release for the heroin conviction. He was sentenced to two years to be served consecutively for the supervised release violation.
Quinones’ lengthy rap sheet and continued involvement in the illicit drug trade caught the attention of federal authorities, who charged him with violating his supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the Springfield Branch Office prosecuted the case.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni. The case was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England division and the Springfield Police Department.
This case serves as a reminder that the federal government is cracking down on those who continue to engage in illicit drug activities while under supervision. As Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy stated, ‘this sentence reflects the seriousness with which we take these crimes and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.’
