Erie Man Indicted for Defrauding Woman He Met Online
Henry James Corder, 63, of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been accused of swindling a woman he met online out of thousands of dollars.
According to a seven-count indictment, Corder falsely claimed to be a U.S. Marshal and promised to help the victim recover an advance fee scheme she was a victim of. He also lied about needing money for cancer treatments, funeral services for relatives, and business partnerships.
The indictment alleges that Corder engaged in a complex scheme to defraud the victim, using a combination of deceit and manipulation to extract money from her.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation.
Corder faces a maximum sentence of 100 years in prison, a fine of $1,750,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offenses and Corder’s prior criminal history.
An indictment is an accusation, and Corder is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
