Gulfport, Miss – A major blow was dealt to the cocaine trade in Gulfport, Mississippi, as Herman McGee, Jr. pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
The 27-year-old defendant from Jacksonville, Florida, faces a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine.
In addition to the prison sentence, McGee may also be forced to pay a fine of $5,000,000 and serve at least 4 years of supervised release.
The case against McGee, however, does not end there. He also faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for conspiracy to possess a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
The case against McGee was investigated by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams.
McGee’s guilty plea is the latest development in a case that has already seen several of his co-conspirators enter guilty pleas of their own.
Jalyn Nicole Holland and Keriyae Judekqa Simmons, both from Jacksonville, Florida, pleaded guilty to interstate travel in aid of an unlawful activity.
Each faces a maximum of 5 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 1 year of supervised release.
Michael Lamar Ricks, also from Jacksonville, Florida, entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine.
Sentencing for all three defendants is set for September 30, 2015.
The guilty plea by McGee is a significant development in the ongoing battle against cocaine trafficking in Gulfport, Mississippi.
As the investigation and prosecution of this case continue, it remains to be seen how many others will be brought to justice.
