Heroin Dealer Charged in Overdose Death
A 22-year-old Louisville man has been charged with dealing heroin that resulted in the overdose death of a Bowling Green woman.
According to authorities, Damone Domonique Bell supplied heroin to K.M. and L.C. on July 30, 2018, which ultimately led to K.M.’s death. K.M. was found unresponsive beside a vehicle by the Bowling Green Police Department and efforts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.
The Bowling Green Police Department, along with the Kentucky State Police and the ATF, investigated the case and gathered evidence, including surveillance video from a gas station where L.C. and K.M. purchased the heroin. They also obtained text messages and conducted other investigative measures that led them to Bell.
Bell was arrested on July 31, 2018, during a traffic stop by the Kentucky State Police. He was found with a small bag of suspected marijuana and two small plastic bags that field-tested positive for heroin in his vehicle.
“One pill or single dose of heroin can kill,” stated U.S. Attorney Russell M. Coleman. “Likewise, if as little as a single pill or dose causes death or an overdose, drug traffickers need to be on notice that our office will bring charges carrying a mandatory penalty of 20 years to life in federal prison.”
Bell faces two counts in federal court, including possession and distribution of heroin. If convicted, he could be sentenced to no less than 20 years and no more than life in prison, fined $2,000,000, and ordered to serve no less than 3 years and up to life of supervised release.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jo E. Lawless in coordination with the Warren County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
