New Orleans Man Gets 20 Years for Heroin Trafficking

By: Grimy Times Staff

A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy that spanned across state lines, according to court documents.

Lejeune Harris, 43, of New Orleans, was sentenced to 240 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, as well as 120 months each on charges of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and attempted possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. The sentences will run concurrently.

The charges against Harris stem from a traffic stop of a Fiat on Interstate-10 East in Calcasieu Parish, where law enforcement discovered four packages of heroin weighing approximately one kilogram in total. The driver of the vehicle claimed that she had been paid $1,000 in cash by Larry Dupor of Houston to deliver the heroin to Harris at a car wash in New Orleans East.

According to court records, the driver had made similar deliveries before, and had agreed to assist law enforcement by following through with a delivery of ‘sham’ heroin to Harris. Under surveillance, Harris was seen taking the ‘sham’ packages and handing the driver $2,000 in cash.

Agents then obtained a search warrant for the car wash office, where they recovered an additional 479 grams of heroin in a hidden area where Harris had stored the three packages of ‘sham’ heroin.

Dupor, who had also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and attempted distribution of 100 grams or more of heroin, is scheduled to be sentenced on April 6, 2017.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Homeland Security Investigations in investigating this matter, and Assistant United States Attorneys Michael B. Redmann and Shirin Hakimzadeh were in charge of the prosecution.
