PORTLAND, Ore. — Edis Odalis Banegas, a 45-year-old Honduran national unlawfully residing in Portland, faced federal justice after being sentenced to 108 months in prison for trafficking fentanyl across Oregon.
Banegas was nabbed during a September 2023 traffic stop where law enforcement discovered and seized large quantities of the deadly drug. His co-conspirator was also apprehended in the operation.
Further investigation led to the discovery of additional fentanyl, counterfeit pills, firearms, ammunition, and processing equipment at Banegas’s residence and storage unit, totaling over ten pounds of the lethal substance.
The federal grand jury indicted Banegas on three counts, including conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute. He pleaded guilty on February 5, 2025, marking a swift conclusion to the case.
This operation was a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Westside Interagency Narcotics (WIN) team, Portland Police Bureau, and Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. Scott M. Kerin, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, prosecuted the case.
