Howard Davis, Cocaine Trafficking, Louisiana 2022

SHREVEPORT, LA. – Howard Davis, 45, of Raleigh, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 21 years and 8 months in prison for his role in transporting cocaine through Louisiana.

A federal jury found Davis guilty on June 14, 2023, of possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Louisiana State Police.

According to the investigation, Davis was stopped by a Louisiana State Trooper on Interstate 20 near Minden, Louisiana, on August 2, 2022, for a traffic violation. The trooper became suspicious of the story Davis provided as to why he was traveling through the area and called in a K-9 unit to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle.

The K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics, and a search of the vehicle revealed a tote bag containing approximately 4.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine wrapped in black electrical tape. The cocaine had an estimated street value of over $110,000.

The narcotics were seized and sent to the DEA Laboratory for testing, where it was confirmed to be cocaine. Davis was subsequently arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

Davis was sentenced to 262 months (21 years, 8 months) in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Cassidy and Alexander C. Van Hook, Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney.
