Hyde Park Man Sentenced to 4+ Years for Loaded Firearm Possession

A Hyde Park man has been sentenced to over four years in prison for possessing a loaded firearm, despite being a convicted felon.

BOSTON – King Belin, 38, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton to 51 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ammunition.

Belin was convicted in February 2024 of one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The charges stem from a December 20, 2020 traffic stop in Hyde Park, where police found the loaded pistol in Belin’s waistband.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Belin attempted to flee the scene after the traffic stop, leading to a struggle with law enforcement. He was immediately apprehended.

Belin’s lengthy criminal record includes a 2015 conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, for which he received a 71-month prison sentence. In 2010, he was convicted in Suffolk Superior Court of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, earning him 18 months in state prison and two years of probation.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and the community.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Field Division, and Stoughton Police Chief Donna M. McNamara made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorneys John T. Dawley and Benjamin A. Tolkoff of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case.

Belin’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal law, particularly for those with a history of gun-related crimes.

The Department of Justice’s announcement highlighted the importance of strengthening Project Safe Neighborhoods to foster trust and legitimacy in communities, support community-based organizations, and set focused enforcement priorities.

Belin’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of gun violence and the importance of holding accountable those who would seek to exploit loopholes in the law.
