Henry Yau, Bribery, New York 2026

⏱ 2 min read

A former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) supervisory deportation officer, Henry Yau, pleaded guilty to conspiring to solicit and accept bribes and gratuities in New York. Yau, who was employed by ICE between 2015 and November 2024, used his position to disclose confidential law enforcement information, tip off an individual about an ongoing FBI investigation, and arrest a person that members of a bank fraud conspiracy wanted to silence. The crimes occurred while Yau was working at the ICE New York Field Office in Manhattan.

Yau’s actions were a clear abuse of his power and a betrayal of the trust placed in him as a law enforcement officer. He was promoted to Supervisory Deportation Officer in September 2021, giving him even more access to sensitive information and greater influence over the actions of his colleagues.

The guilty plea is a significant outcome for the case, which was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Yau’s conviction sends a strong message that corruption and bribery will not be tolerated within law enforcement agencies.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated that Yau’s actions were a failure of his duty as a law enforcement officer and a breach of the trust placed in him. Clayton emphasized that ICE officers are entrusted with enforcing the country’s immigration laws and preserving national security and public safety, and that they deserve respect when they carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism.
