Ex-Terrorist Sentenced to 20 Years for Stabbing Federal Prison Warden

Fazliddin Kurbanov, 36, has been sentenced to an additional 20 years in prison for attempting to murder the warden of the Federal Correctional Institute-II in Victorville, California, on May 31, 2016. Kurbanov was already serving a 25-year sentence for providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

The brutal attack left the warden with serious injuries, but he has since recovered and now serves at another United States Bureau of Prisons facility. Kurbanov pleaded guilty to the attempted murder charge on March 13 and admitted to making and using a prison-made knife to carry out the attack.

During his sentencing hearing, Kurbanov expressed extreme animosity toward the United States and stated that the warden was supposed to die. Judge Virginia A. Phillips handed down the maximum possible sentence for the attempted murder offense, noting the impact on the victim and his family.

The judge concluded that Kurbanov remains an extreme danger and ordered that the 20-year sentence run consecutively to the 25-year sentence he is already serving. Kurbanov will also be placed on lifetime supervised release once he completes his prison terms.

The investigation into the attack was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the case is being prosecuted by the National Security Division of the United States Attorney’s Office.

Kurbanov’s actions have sent shockwaves through the community, and many are relieved that justice has been served. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by violent offenders and the importance of holding them accountable for their crimes.

Fazliddin Kurbanov’s 20-year sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of violence and extremism. His actions have caused immeasurable harm, and it is only fitting that he face the full force of the law.
