Esequiel Rueda-Ramirez, a 38-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for repeatedly entering the United States illegally. Rueda-Ramirez, who has a history of convictions for evading arrest, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine, was discovered in the country without authorization on June 2, 2022, in Houston, Texas. He had been previously removed from the United States in February 2010, but returned illegally multiple times. Rueda-Ramirez pleaded guilty to the offense on November 13, 2025.
Rueda-Ramirez’s criminal history and repeated illegal reentries led to his sentencing by U.S. District Judge Hanen. The court heard evidence regarding his criminal history while unlawfully present in the United States, including his prior convictions. The investigation was conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Hostetter.
Rueda-Ramirez will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. His sentencing is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations. The operation seeks to protect communities from violent crime and achieve the elimination of cartels and other criminal organizations.
The case highlights the ongoing issue of illegal reentry in the United States and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to address the problem. Rueda-Ramirez’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of repeatedly entering the country illegally and engaging in criminal activity.
