Duilio Ivan Selgado, a 25-year-old Laredo resident and member of the Paisas prison gang, has been sentenced to 55 months in federal prison for human smuggling. On November 10, 2025, authorities observed approximately 20 illegal aliens crossing the Rio Grande near the La Bota Ranch area. The aliens were picked up by a Ford Expedition and Ford F-150, which led to a law enforcement pursuit. Selgado was found to be involved in the smuggling attempt, and one of the aliens stated that he had paid to be smuggled into the United States.
Selgado pleaded guilty on February 3 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Diana Saldana. The court heard evidence of Selgado’s extensive criminal history, including violence and other conduct that placed the public at risk. This marked Selgado’s sixth arrest for alien smuggling and the second time he violated a term of supervised release by committing the same offense.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Day and was a joint effort between the HSTF and JTFA. Selgado has been and will remain in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
Selgado’s sentence includes 41 months for transporting illegal aliens and a consecutive 14 months for violating his supervised release. He will also serve two years of supervised release after his prison term. The sentence reflects the seriousness of Selgado’s crimes and his history of violating the terms of his supervised release.
