Rigoberto Corado-Hernandes, a 63-year-old Guatemalan man, has been sentenced to 8 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. Corado-Hernandes, who was residing in Rock Valley, Iowa, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry after being caught by immigration officials in the Sioux County jail. He had previously been deported from the US to Guatemala, not once but twice, and had a history of violent crime, including a conviction for domestic abuse assault in 2024.
Corado-Hernandes’s troubles began when he attempted to stab his nephew with a knife, earning him a conviction for domestic abuse assault in Sioux County, Iowa. He was then located by immigration officials in the Sioux County jail, where he was being held on a probation violation. It was then that officials discovered he was a citizen of Guatemala with no legal status to be in the US and had previously been deported.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and investigated by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Corado-Hernandes was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand to 8 months’ imprisonment, followed by a one-year term of supervised release.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and protecting communities from violent crime. Corado-Hernandes is currently being held in the US Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
