Inmates Caught with Contraband
WILKES-BARRE – In a shocking move, two inmates at the Federal Correctional Institute-Schuylkill in Minersville, Pennsylvania, were sentenced to one month in prison for possession of contraband.
Jose Martinez, 54, and David Montserrate Torres, 33, were caught with a cellphone, charging cable, charging adapter, and a pair of earbuds on July 18, 2021, while housed in the satellite camp at FCI-Schuylkill.
The Bureau of Prisons investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeffrey St. John and James M. Buchanan handled the prosecution. Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler confirmed that both inmates were found to be in possession of prohibited objects.
The court handed down separate sentences for each inmate, with both Martinez and Montserrate Torres serving one month consecutive to their current sentences. The U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph F. Saporito, Jr. presided over the case.
According to sources, the inmates were caught after a thorough investigation by the Bureau of Prisons.
