Meth ‘Ice’ Trade Cracks in Alabama
MONTGOMERY, Alabama – In a joint operation with federal, state, and local authorities, 15 individuals were arrested in connection with a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation in central Alabama.
According to law enforcement officials, the arrests were made through the execution of five federal search warrants in Montgomery, Deatsville, and Elmore County. The warrants were executed after an investigation revealed a sophisticated trafficking operation that had been distributing large quantities of ‘ice’ methamphetamine throughout the region.
Law enforcement officials seized over a pound of ‘ice’ methamphetamine, more than 30 firearms, nearly $13,000 in cash, and several vehicles during the operation. Six of the 15 arrested individuals were taken into federal custody and charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Those arrested federally include Mark ‘Mighty Whitey’ Elliott, 50, of Deatsville, William ‘Bill’ Elliott, 57, of Deatsville, Wendell ‘Cain’ Gaskin, 40, of Deatsville, Willie C. Moody, 64, of Montgomery, William Christopher Moody, 36, of Montgomery, and Mark Allen Vinson, 43, of Elmore. Mark ‘Mighty Whitey’ Elliott, William ‘Bill’ Elliott, Wendell ‘Cain’ Gaskin, and Mark Vinson were detained without bond pending trial, while Willie C. Moody and William Christopher Moody were granted bond and are awaiting trial.
The remaining nine individuals arrested were taken into state custody and charged with various drug-related crimes, including unlawful possession of controlled substances, unlawful distribution of controlled substances, and trafficking of methamphetamine. Those arrested on state charges include Brandon Fuller, Faye Diane Allen, Bobby Roten, Paul Bryant, Caleb Elliott, Brandon Horton, Lindsey Lawrence, Haley Dallas Hamrac, and Michael Lee Smith.
Law enforcement officials praised the success of the operation, citing the importance of interagency cooperation in disrupting and dismantling large-scale trafficking operations.
‘This investigation highlights the importance of our law enforcement partnerships,’ said Clay X. Morris, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration. ‘Without the combined efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, this organization would have continued to distribute pound quantities of methamphetamine throughout central Alabama.’
Assistant Special Agent Morris added that the investigation sends a clear message that law enforcement will not tolerate the proliferation of drugs and hate in their communities.
Law enforcement officials also highlighted the significance of the operation in combating violent crime and disrupting the activities of violent gangs, such as the Aryan Brotherhood, which Mark ‘Mighty Whitey’ Elliott is alleged to be a part of.
‘This investigation is more evidence that ATF’s commitment to combating violent crime is unwavering,’ said ATF Special Agent in Charge Jeff Fulton. ‘We will utilize every resource to make our communities safer places to live.’
The operation was the result of a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency.
