Nicholas Robert Campbell-Scott, a 29-year-old from Waterloo, Iowa, cut his ankle monitor and fled from the Gerald R. Hinzman Center, a residential re-entry center in Cedar Rapids, in January 2026. He was serving a federal prison sentence for possession of a firearm by a felon at the time. Campbell-Scott has past convictions for escape and absence from custody, making this his latest run-in with the law. Law enforcement officers arrested him six days later in Coralville, Iowa.
Campbell-Scott pleaded guilty to escape from custody on March 4, 2026. He was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids. In addition to his prison term, Campbell-Scott will also serve a three-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and the Iowa Department of Corrections, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake. Campbell-Scott is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
