GRIMY NEWS ALERT: A Roland, Iowa despot has been locked up for over two decades for his sinister role in a massive methamphetamine importation scheme. Bobbey Dean Robey, 62, was sentenced to more than 22 years in federal prison after admitting to conspiracy to distribute the drug.
Law enforcement got wind of Robey’s involvement in the operation that funneled nearly ten kilograms of the deadly substance from Mexico into Iowa. Wiretaps and intercepted communications painted a chilling picture of the drug ring, with Robey personally discussing shipment details.
In July 2020, police stopped a vehicle laden with almost 5,000 grams of methamphetamine just outside Des Moines. The occupants confessed the shipment was meant for Robey, who intended to distribute it across Iowa.
Robey’s criminal resume is as long as his prison sentence, marked by 14 adult convictions, including eight felonies and two violent assaults. His latest conviction came in Cedar Rapids, where he received a 270-month sentence plus a five-year supervised release term. There’s no parole for Robey in the federal system.
The government’s case was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Corkery, with the investigation spearheaded by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and various local and federal agencies.
