Iowa Man Sentenced for Cocaine and Marijuana Possession
A 15-month prison sentence was handed down to Matthew Podgorski, 23, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana in a Nebraska court. On July 18, 2018, officers observed Podgorski driving a vehicle eastbound on I-80 in Omaha, traveling approximately 60 mph in a 50 mph construction zone.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and upon approaching, they immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. A further search of the vehicle recovered marijuana and two kilograms of cocaine.
The case was investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. United States Attorney Joe Kelly announced the sentence, which includes no parole in the federal system. In addition to his prison term, Podgorski will serve four years of supervised release following his release from prison.
The traffic stop was one of several factors that led to Podgorski’s arrest and subsequent sentencing. The case is a prime example of the importance of traffic stops in preventing and investigating crime.
Podgorski had a significant amount of cocaine in his possession, with two kilograms recovered by officers. The exact value of the cocaine and marijuana is not specified.
The sentence handed down to Podgorski is a serious one, and it serves as a warning to those involved in similar activities. The Nebraska court system is committed to keeping the state safe from drug trafficking and distribution.
In the end, the sentence of 15 months in prison and four years of supervised release is a significant penalty for Podgorski. The case is a reminder that law enforcement is committed to keeping the community safe and that those who engage in criminal activity will be held accountable.
