Sharon Gohari, a naturalized US citizen from Iran, has pleaded guilty to smuggling aliens into the United States and receiving child sexual abuse material. The crimes took place over several years, with Gohari soliciting payments from Iranian nationals and others to arrange their unlawful entry into the US. At least one individual aided by Gohari had ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.
Gohari, who resided in both Iran and Nassau County, New York, was found to have received and stored multiple videos depicting child rape, as well as hundreds of photos and videos of women being stalked and recorded surreptitiously in New York City. The guilty plea was entered in federal court in Brooklyn, with US District Judge Ann M. Donnelly presiding.
The investigation and prosecution of Gohari’s crimes involved several agencies, including the FBI, DOJ, and US Customs and Border Protection. US Attorney Joseph Nocella stated that Gohari’s actions put national security at risk and endangered vulnerable individuals for profit.
Gohari’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the case, which highlights the ongoing threat of alien smuggling and child exploitation in the US. The outcome of the case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilant law enforcement and cooperation between agencies to combat these serious crimes.
