Irene Man Sentenced in Methamphetamine Conspiracy
In a shocking turn of events, an Irene, South Dakota man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. According to authorities, Jacob Franklin Zurcher, a 30-year-old man from Irene, was found guilty of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Zurcher was sentenced on January 9, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. The sentence will be followed by 3 years of supervised release. Zurcher’s involvement in the conspiracy dated back to July 9, 2013, when a federal grand jury indicted him for Conspiracy to Distribute 500 Grams of Methamphetamine.
As part of the conspiracy, Zurcher allowed co-conspirators to sell methamphetamine from his home and also purchased methamphetamine and sold it to customers in Sioux Falls. The authorities revealed that Zurcher’s home was used as a hub for the illicit activities, with methamphetamine being sold to customers in the city.
The case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney John E. Haak prosecuted the case, bringing Zurcher to justice for his crimes.
Zurcher’s guilty plea on October 29, 2013, marked a significant turning point in the case. He admitted to his involvement in the conspiracy, acknowledging that he had allowed others to sell methamphetamine from his home and had also purchased and sold the substance to customers in Sioux Falls.
With the sentence now finalized, Zurcher is set to begin serving his 46-month prison term immediately. He was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, bringing an end to his involvement in the methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
