Isaac Herrera, 22, Sentenced in Iowa Child Exploitation Case

A Brownsville, Texas man has been sentenced for his role in a disturbing child exploitation case in Iowa. Isaac Herrera, 22, pleaded guilty on May 10, 2023, in federal court in Sioux City to sexually exploiting a minor child who was between the ages of 12 and 16 at the time of the abuse.

According to court documents, Herrera coerced the minor to engage in live stream sessions featuring sexually explicit conduct and retained digital images from the sessions. He also admitted to possessing child pornography depictions of the victim and other minors on his phone.

Herrera further admitted to contacting the victim in order to influence his testimony at trial, while Herrera was in jail pending trial in this case. This egregious behavior is a clear indication of Herrera’s guilt and willingness to manipulate the system for his own benefit.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This case is a prime example of the importance of this initiative and the need for continued efforts to protect children from predators like Herrera.

Sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Herrera faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 5 years up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Sioux City Police Department.
