A Kalona man was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for his egregious crimes against a child.
The defendant, James Lee Johnson, 43, of Kalona, Alabama, was sentenced on April 7, 2026, after being convicted of sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
According to the indictment, Johnson committed the heinous crime between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The charges against Johnson included one count of sexual exploitation of a child, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251(a), and one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2251(a)(2). Johnson was found guilty on both counts on February 24, 2026.
The sentencing hearing was held on April 7, 2026, before the Honorable U.S. District Judge, in Davenport, Iowa. Johnson’s sentence was determined by the court to be 25 years in federal prison, to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
