Isidro Aguilar-Mendoza, Illegal Re-Entry, Pennsylvania 2023

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – In a shocking turn of events, a 43-year-old man from Mexico has been charged with re-entering the United States despite being previously deported.

Isidro Aguilar-Mendoza, a Mexican national, was indicted by a federal grand jury with illegal re-entry into the United States by a previously deported alien. The alleged offense occurred sometime after December 2009, and Aguilar-Mendoza was found in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania after evading examination or inspection by immigration officers.

This is not the first time Aguilar-Mendoza has been convicted of a crime related to his immigration status. In 2009, he was convicted in the Southern District of Texas of illegal re-entry, an offense that subjects him to enhanced penalties in the current case.

According to United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Aguilar-Mendoza was previously deported from the United States to Mexico in March 2004, December 2009, and May 2009.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Special Assistant United States Attorney Brian G. McDonnell is prosecuting the case.

Aguilar-Mendoza faces a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine due to his previous conviction. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the Judge is required to consider and weigh a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances and seriousness of the offense; the history and characteristics of the defendant; and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational and medical needs.

Aguilar-Mendoza is expected to appear in court to face the charges against him. His current status is not immediately available.
