Brevard County Man Pleads Guilty to Multi-Kilogram Cocaine Offense

Orlando, FL – Jackie Jamal Hines (46, Melbourne) has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, a federal crime.

Hines faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

According to court documents, on December 6, 2023, a traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle being driven by Hines after he left his storage unit in Melbourne, Florida.

Hines exited his vehicle and fled on foot from law enforcement. Once he was detained, officers located a bag containing over 300 grams of cocaine and two digital scales on his person.

Hines was also in possession of a key to his storage unit. A search warrant was then obtained for the storage unit, where agents located a safe with five pressed bricks containing about a kilogram of cocaine each.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Melbourne Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman.

Hines’ guilty plea marks a significant blow to cocaine trafficking in Florida. The DEA and Melbourne Police Department’s collaborative efforts have led to the dismantling of a major cocaine operation.

The exact date of the sentencing hearing has not been set. However, Hines is expected to face a lengthy prison term for his role in the multi-kilogram cocaine offense.
