TYLER, Texas – The gritty streets of Jacksonville are rocking with a fresh wave of justice. Cody Nerren, a 34-year-old convicted felon from the town, has been slapped with a severe federal firearms violation charge.
The Eastern District of Texas grand jury hasn’t minced words, charging Nerren with being a felon in possession of a firearm. It’s alleged that on April 24, 2025, the law enforcement officials found Nerren packing heat in Cherokee County, a clear violation of his rights as a convicted felon.
Nerren’s rap sheet is no secret; he’s been flagged for several previous felony convictions, which automatically make him barred from owning or possessing firearms. This case has struck a nerve in the community, with residents demanding justice.
Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime, is breathing life into this investigation. The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) have joined forces to tackle this case.
If convicted of the federal charge, Nerren will face up to 15 years behind bars. This isn’t just about a gun; it’s about accountability for a felon who shouldn’t have been anywhere near firearms.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security are on the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble taking the lead in prosecution. Remember, a federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. Until proven otherwise, Nerren remains innocent in the eyes of the law.
