Bryan Roger Byers, Gun Possession by Unlawful User, Florida 2025

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a shocking turn of events, Bryan Roger Byers, a 57-year-old United States Postal Service employee from Jacksonville, has pleaded guilty to being in possession of a firearm as an unlawful drug user. Byers now faces up to 15 years in federal prison for the charge.

The court documents and proceedings reveal that Byers’ downfall began when a firearm he had purchased was recovered during a drug trafficking investigation. The ATF launched their investigation after uncovering that a felon, caught with the firearm, confessed to buying it from Byers in exchange for crack cocaine.

Further investigation revealed text messages indicating Byers used sex workers to find buyers for his firearms, who would then exchange drugs for them. Records show he purchased at least 10 firearms over the past four years.

A search warrant executed on April 2, 2025, at Byers’ home resulted in the seizure of seven firearms, multiple rounds of ammunition, and two suspected crack pipes. The next day, ATF agents arrested Byers for attempting to purchase another firearm while being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm.

This case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta is handling the prosecution.

The charges against Byers are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at eliminating cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
