GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a chilling development, Alexander James Koby, 40-year-old of Jacksonville, Florida, has pleaded guilty to receiving child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) over the internet. The predator now faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 40 years in federal prison, along with a lifetime of supervised release.
Koby was already a registered sex offender when he was sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender prior to his arrest for this newest offense. His previous conviction was for possessing CSAM, a crime he committed back in 2014 and served before being released in August 2019.
According to court documents, Koby’s descent into pedophilia continued even as he served a 25-year term of supervised release. On December 7, 2022, a search of his residence uncovered three devices—computer, cellphone, and external hard disk drive—that contained a harrowing cache of child exploitation materials. Koby admitted to using these devices to view and download graphic images and videos of children being sexually abused.
The forensic examination of the seized items revealed 103 videos and 2,311 photos depicting young children suffering at the hands of predators. This evidence paints a disturbing picture of Koby’s obsession with pedophilia, which he justified by claiming to get a thrill from ‘living dangerously’.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown. It is part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice’s relentless fight against child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative has been instrumental in identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting individuals like Koby.
