A federal grand jury in South Dakota has indicted a 34-year-old California man for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
The indictment, which was announced by U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell, alleges that Jamaul Carter, also known as Mud or Mudd Roll, conspired with others to knowingly distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in South Dakota, on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation, between September of 2021 and November of 2022.
Carter, a resident of Long Beach, California, appeared before Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on November 30, 2022, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in custody and/or a $10,000,000 fine, a lifetime of supervised release, and a $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into Carter’s activities is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case.
Carter was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has been set for January 31, 2023.
The charge is merely an accusation, and Carter is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
