BOISE – A Kuna man is facing up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal drug charge.

James Brett John, 30, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

John was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 10, 2016, and was arrested on a warrant for violating his parole on May 4, 2016, in Ada County, Idaho.

Boise police officers stopped a vehicle John was a passenger in and found a bag in his pants containing over an ounce of methamphetamine, baggies, and a digital scale.

Officers also located a glove in the vehicle that contained additional methamphetamine, prescription pain pills, and a synthetic drug known as ‘a-PVP’ or ‘bath salts.’

John admitted to police officers that he intended to sell the methamphetamine.

The crime of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute is punishable by a minimum of five years and up to forty years in prison, a maximum fine of $5,000,000 and at least four years of supervised release.

Sentencing is set for November 23, 2016, before Senior U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.

The case is the result of a joint investigation by the Boise Police Department and the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which includes the cooperative law enforcement efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation; and U.S. Marshals Service.

The OCDETF program is a federal multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task force that supplies supplemental federal funding to federal and state agencies involved in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of major drug trafficking organizations.
