Buffalo Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Selling Fentanyl

BUFFALO, N.Y.–A 45-year-old man from Buffalo has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation in Western New York.

James Clemons, also known as James Brown and Womp, was convicted of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. handed down the sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna Duncan, who prosecuted the case, said that investigators from the New York State Police conducted four controlled purchases of fentanyl from Clemons in February and March 2023. The transactions were part of an ongoing investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the region.

On March 4, 2023, Clemons was stopped by a Lancaster Police officer for operating a Porsche Cayenne with an expired inspection sticker. When the officer searched Clemons, he found $1,720.50 in cash and plastic bags of suspected fentanyl. A search of the vehicle also turned up drug paraphernalia.

Three weeks later, on March 31, 2023, Clemons was arrested on a federal arrest warrant by the FBI. Agents seized multiple bags of suspected narcotics from Clemons at the time of his arrest.

The sentencing was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police, and the Lancaster Police Department. The case highlights the ongoing struggle to combat fentanyl trafficking in Western New York.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo praised the work of the law enforcement agencies involved in the case, saying that their efforts had made the community a safer place.
