A convicted Maryland man has admitted to playing a role in a far-reaching Eutylone trafficking operation. Charles Grant, 61, of Waldorf, Maryland, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute Eutylone.’
The investigation into Grant’s illicit activities spanned from June 2019 to December 2020 in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties and elsewhere. According to the indictment, Grant conspired with others to distribute the synthetic stimulant across the region.
This case serves as a reminder that the war on drugs continues to be a pressing issue in our community. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the West Virginia State Police, have worked tirelessly to dismantle these trafficking networks.
Grant now faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
The case was investigated by the FBI; U.S. Marshals Service; Homeland Security Investigations; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives; the West Virginia Air National Guard; the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force; the West Virginia State Police; the Harpers Ferry Police Department; and the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing, where Grant’s plea was accepted. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
